Because this year the IUPAC Congress is planned as a Virtual event, the winners will also be invited the 2023 IUPAC Congress to be held in The Netherlands. Each winner is invited to submit a short critical review on aspects of his\/her research topic, to be published in <em>Pure and Applied Chemistry<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The titles of the winners\u2019 theses are:<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gabriele Laudadio: \u201cNew synthetic methods enabled by photochemistry and electrochemistry in flow\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Justin Andrews: \u201cCorralling Electrons in Metastable Vanadium Oxides: Implications for Neuromorphic Computing, Electrical Energy Storage, and Photocatalysis\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kaibo Feng: \u201cLate-Stage C(sp3)\u2013H Hydroxylation, Amination, and Methylation in Nitrogen-Containing Molecules\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kelly Brown: \u201cDevelopment of Electrochemiluminescent Sensors as Screening Tools for the Identification of Drug Species within Complex Matrices for Forensic Investigations\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Austin Michael Evans: \u201cTwo-dimensional polymers and polymerizations\u201c<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18767 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Solvay-Awardees2021.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"731\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Solvay-Awardees2021.png 731w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Solvay-Awardees2021-300x85.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 731px) 100vw, 731px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were 46 applications from individuals receiving their Ph.D. degrees from institutions in 18 countries. The award selection committee, chaired by Professor Qi-Feng Zhou, IUPAC Past President, comprised members of the IUPAC Bureau and a senior science advisor from Solvay, all of whom have a wide range of experience in chemistry.<br \/>\nIn view of the many high-quality applications, the Committee also decided to award three Honorable Mentions to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Irene Regeni (Germany), Ph.D., TU Dortmund University<\/li>\n<li>Ni Kaiyuan (China\/Beijing), Ph.D., The University of Chicago<\/li>\n<li>Dusan P. Kolarski (Serbia), Ph.D., University of Groningen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The call for applications for the 2022 IUPAC-Solvay International Award for Young Chemists will open soon.
