Sempionatto<\/a> (USA), Ph.D., University of California San Diego, USA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21455 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/CI4403-Jul2022_p24.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/CI4403-Jul2022_p24.png 702w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/CI4403-Jul2022_p24-300x69.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The winners will each receive a cash prize of USD 1000 and travel expenses to the <a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/event\/iupac-world-chemistry-congress-2023\/\">49th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress<\/a>, 20-25 August 2023, in The Hague, The Netherlands. Each winner will also be invited to present a poster at the IUPAC Congress describing his\/her award-winning work and to submit a short critical review on aspects of his\/her research topic, to be published in <em>Pure and Applied Chemistry<\/em>. The awards will be presented to the winners of the 2022 and 2023 competitions during the Opening Ceremony of the Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The titles of the winners\u2019 theses are:<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Alexander John Cruz: &#8220;Metal-organic frameworks by vapor deposition processes&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Yuyang Dong: &#8220;C\u2013H Functionalization Catalysis Mediated by First-Row Transition Metal-Stabilized Ligand-Based Radicals&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Stefano Ippolito: &#8220;Defect engineering in 2D semiconductors : fabrication of hybrid multifunctional devices&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Li\u00a0 Jianbin: &#8220;Development of novel C-H and C-O functionalization tools in the absence of noble metal&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Juliane R. Sempionatto: &#8220;Wearable Electrochemical Sensors for Non-Invasive Health Monitoring&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were 44 applications from individuals receiving their Ph.D. degrees from institutions in 15 countries. The award selection committee, chaired by Professor Christopher Brett, IUPAC Past President, comprised members of the IUPAC Bureau and a senior science advisor from Solvay, all of whom have a wide range of experience in chemistry.<br \/>\nIn view of the many high-quality applications, the Committee also decided to award three Honorable Mentions to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Xiang Shi (China\/Beijing), Ph.D., Fudan University, China<\/li>\n<li>Anirban Mondal (Netherlands), Ph.D., University of Groningen, The Netherlands<\/li>\n<li>Soraya Learte Aymam\u00ed (Spain), Ph.D., Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The call for applications for the 2023 IUPAC-Solvay International Award for Young Chemists will open soon.
