{"id":24794,"date":"2023-10-10T09:56:23","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T13:56:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iupac.org\/?p=24794"},"modified":"2024-04-19T02:11:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T06:11:53","slug":"the-top-ten-emerging-technologies-in-chemistry-call-for-proposals-for-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iupac.org\/the-top-ten-emerging-technologies-in-chemistry-call-for-proposals-for-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"The Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry \u2013 Call for Proposals for 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry has released its call for proposals to identify the top ten emerging technologies in chemistry with the results to be announced in 2024.<\/p>\n<p><em>Stay tuned for next week announcement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23iupactop2023\">#IUPACTop2023<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>This initiative began in 2018 in recognition of IUPAC\u2019s Centenary in 2019, and while it was created to kick-off IUPAC\u2019s anniversary year in a very visible way, the end goal was to showcase the value of Chemistry (and chemists!) and to inform the general public as to how the chemical sciences contribute to the well-being of Society and the sustainability of Planet Earth. The most recent finalists for 2023 will be announced in October 2023 and detailed in the Oct 2023 issue of <em>Chemistry International (CI). <\/em>The finalists for previous years are summarized <a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/what-we-do\/top-ten\/\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The call for the 2024 proposals is now open. Anyone can submit one or more proposals \u2013 this call for proposals is open to the global science community as well as to the general public.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cognitoforms.com\/IUPAC1\/_2024TopTenEmergingTechnologiesInChemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LINK to nomination form<\/a><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Call for nomination &#8211; extended deadline 17 April 2024<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>What is an \u201cEmerging Technology?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>An \u201cEmerging Technology\u201d is one that is between a new scientific discovery and a fully-commercialized technology. It should involve a solid understanding of the technology, some type of prototype, or even better some start-ups working to commercialize the technology. But most importantly, the technology needs to be exciting, have the capacity to open up new opportunities in chemistry and beyond, and most importantly, help to solve major global problems &#8211; the focus of IUPAC\u2019s vision and mission. The term \u201cchemistry\u201d is used in its broadest sense, including material science, nanotechnology, and biochemistry.
