Each winner will also be invited to present a poster at the IUPAC Congress describing his\/her award-winning work and to submit a short critical review on aspects of his\/her research topic, to be published in <em>Pure and Applied Chemistry<\/em>. The awards will be presented to the winners of the 2024 and 2025 competitions during the Opening Ceremony of the Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The titles of the winners\u2019 theses are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Subhajit Bhattacharjee: &#8220;Photoelectrochemical and Chemoenzymatic Reforming for Sustainable Fuel Production&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Dr Robert Thomas O&#8217;Neill: &#8220;Stiff Stilbene as a Mechanochemical Force Probe for Fundamental Studies and Small Molecule Manipulation&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Dr Gabrielle Mandl: &#8220;On the Development of Pr3+-doped Radioluminescent Nanoparticles for X-ray Mediated Photodynamic Therapy of Glioblastoma Cells&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Dr Ming-Yu Qi: &#8220;Function-Oriented Design of Photoredox Coupled Catalysis System Based on Semiconductor Quantum Dots&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Dr Jiaobing Tu: &#8220;Wearable Sweat Sensors for Disease Monitoring and Management&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-26669 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a-1024x298.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a-1024x298.png 1024w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a-300x87.png 300w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a-768x224.png 768w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a-1536x447.png 1536w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/SolvayYoung2024_a.png 1594w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were 44 applications from individuals receiving their Ph.D. degrees from institutions in 19 countries. The award selection committee, chaired by Professor Javier Garc\u00eda-Mart\u00ednez, IUPAC Past President, comprised members of a wide range of experience in chemistry and a senior science advisor from Solvay.<br \/>\nIn view of the many high-quality applications, the Committee also decided to award four Honorable Mentions to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Sagar Bhattacharya (India, USA), Ph.D., Syracuse University, USA<\/li>\n<li>Dr Karam Idrees (USA), Ph.D., Northwestern University, USA<\/li>\n<li>Dr Itai Massad (Israel), Ph.D., Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel<\/li>\n<li>Dr Nicolas M Morato (Colombia\/USA), Ph.D., Purdue University, USA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The call for applications for the 2025 IUPAC-Solvay International Award for Young Chemists will open soon.
