The goal of this initiative is to showcase the transformative value of chemistry and to inform the general public about the potential of chemical sciences to foster the well-being of Society and the sustainability of our planet. The Jury*\u2014an international panel of scientists with a varied and broad range of expertise- reviewed and discussed the diverse pool of nominations of emerging technologies submitted by researchers from around the globe and selected the final top ten, covering a range of fields from synthesis and polymer chemistry to health and machine learning. These technologies are defined as transformative innovations in between a discovery and a fully-commercialized technology, having outstanding potential to open new opportunities in chemistry, sustainability, and beyond.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/what-we-do\/top-ten\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-26874 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-768x767.png 768w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-1536x1536.png 1536w, https:\/\/iupac.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IUPAC-Topten-2024-2048x2046.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The\u00a0<strong>2024\u00a0finalists<\/strong>\u00a0are (in alphabetical order):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Active Adsorption<\/li>\n<li>Aptamers<\/li>\n<li>Bioinspired Nanofluidic Iontronics<\/li>\n<li>Electrochemical Nitrogen Cycle<\/li>\n<li>Frustrated Lewis Pairs<\/li>\n<li>Hydration Lubrication<\/li>\n<li>KRAS Inhibitors<\/li>\n<li>MXenes<\/li>\n<li>Neural Network Potentials<\/li>\n<li>Triboelectric Nanogenerators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p5\">This year again, the selection promotes cross-collaboration in chemistry to create exciting emerging technologies that bridge the gap between academia and industry, while continuing the current competitiveness of chemical manufacturers. The technology readiness level varies along the different solutions\u2014nevertheless, all show a provocative promise to reimagine our world and our society. The new additions grow the list of emerging technologies to sixty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">The 2024 Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry are further detailed in a feature article published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/etoc-chemistry-international-oct-dec-2024\/\">October issue of <i>Chemistry International (CI)<\/i><\/a>. Fernando Gomoll\u00f3n-Bel, the author of that feature, concludes by recognizing that \u201cIt is fascinating that, year after year, the \u201cTop Ten\u201d uncover chemical technologies with a true potential to transform our world.\u201d He added that \u201cit reflects the real diversity of chemistry as the connecting science, a catalyst across disciplines that can and will accelerate sustainable solutions for our society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The first selection of the Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry was released in 2019 as a special activity honoring IUPAC\u2019s 100th anniversary.
