The prize\u00a0consists of an award of $10,000 US Dollars. At the awards ceremony Professor Hessel will\u00a0make a short technical presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hessel has been active in flow chemistry from 1994 and thus has a 22 years\u00a0engagement in flow chemistry which is longer than for any other researcher in the field.\u00a0Professor Hessels group (at the early stage at IMM Institut fuer Mikrotechnik\u00a0Mainz, Germany and later at the Technical University Eindhoven, The Netherlands) created\u00a0outstanding methodologies for organic syntheses, especially at micro-flow\u00a0conditions, including catalysis, photochemistry, application of plasma catalysis,\u00a0and multiphase flow, to name only a few.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Hessel is one of the most important scientist in the field of Microreaction\u00a0Technology. He brought the idea from the \u201chigh p,T\u201d processing\u00a0into the lab-scale life and later successfully into the industrial scale.\u00a0Prof. Hessel has published several textbooks which are in world-wide use as\u00a0basics for micro-flow research and also for advanced teaching. His multidisciplinary\u00a0work is published numerous papers. His number of citations approaches 9000 and his highest\u00a0cited review paper (<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/anie.200300577\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Angew. Chem<\/em><\/a>.) will soon have 1000 citations. His work spans the fields of\u00a0chemistry and engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hessel holds a PhD in Chemistry from Johannes-Gutenberg University of Mainz.\u00a0He is Full professor \u201cMicro Flow Chemistry &amp; Process Technology\u201d at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU\/e),\u00a0Group Micro Flow Chemistry &amp; Process Technology,\u00a0Department Chemical Engineering and Chemistry (CEC).\u00a0He has relationships with many organisations and industrial contacts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PS: In 2018, Volker Hessel contributed a feature article in IUPAC magazine, <em>Chemistry International<\/em>, entitled &#8220;Everything Flows &#8211; Continuous Micro-Flow for Pharmaceutical Production, <em>CI<\/em> April 2018, pp. 12-16 &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1515\/ci-2018-0203\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1515\/ci-2018-0203<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2016 IUPAC ThalesNano prize has been awarded to Professor Volker Hessel.
